At ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½, students develop strong literacy skills in both Spanish and English. Every day, students participate in dedicated 70–80 minute literacy blocks in each language, building the reading, writing, speaking, and foundational skills they need to become confident bilingual and biliterate learners.
Our literacy program is aligned with grade-level standards in both languages and grounded in research-based instructional practices. Teachers use curricula and other high-quality resources to provide explicit instruction, guided practice, independent reading and writing, small-group learning, and individualized support. English literacy instruction incorporates practices aligned with the Science of Reading, with a strong emphasis on foundational skills in the early grades.
Teachers regularly assess students' literacy development in both English and Spanish to understand their progress and adjust instruction. A combination of classroom assessments and tools such as DIBELS, i-Ready, Benchmark, and STAMP helps teachers monitor skills including decoding, fluency, comprehension, writing, and language development.
When students need additional support, our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) provides targeted literacy interventions in areas such as reading, writing, phonics, and oral language. These supports allow teachers and specialists to respond to individual student needs while continuing to build on each student's strengths as a multilingual learner.
At ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½, math is about more than finding the right answer. Our goal is to develop confident mathematical thinkers who can reason, problem-solve, explain their thinking, and apply what they learn to real-world situations.
Using , a Singapore Math curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards, students build a strong foundation in conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application. Our approach is grounded in the belief that math should make sense, there can be multiple paths to a solution, mistakes are an important part of learning, and productive struggle helps students grow.
Math instruction follows a concrete-to-pictorial-to-abstract progression. Students first explore mathematical ideas using hands-on materials and experiences, then represent their thinking visually before moving toward numbers, symbols, and more abstract concepts. Lessons incorporate discussion, problem-solving, independent practice, and games that help students deepen their understanding and build fluency.
Students receive 60 minutes of math instruction each day in grades K–2 and 70 minutes in grades 3–5. Teachers regularly monitor student progress and use what they learn to differentiate instruction and provide additional support or challenge.
Our teachers also collaborate each week to study student learning, plan instruction, and strengthen their practice. Through ongoing coaching and collaborative learning, teachers continually refine how they help every student see themselves as a capable mathematician.
¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ students engage in science instruction every day from PK3 to 5th grade; this instruction happens only in Spanish. Teachers use a hands-on curriculum, organized around the scientific and engineering practices that support the (NGSS).
¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ scientists read about subject matter, journal in their science notebooks, and explore answers to scientific questions through experimentation and research.
Through this learning, students use our award-winning school garden and food lab to bring science concepts to life. At the end of the year, students celebrate their discoveries with a school-wide Science Fair where they present their projects to Spanish-speaking judges.
